Finchley Loft Conversion
Disused loft space has been completely transformed, unlocking it true value
Satish Jassal Architects has completed a loft conversion in Finchley, Barnet, transforming a disused roof space into a highly functional and adaptable living area, increasing the home’s floor area by approximately 30%.
The brief was to create a flexible space that could operate as a home office, cinema room and guest suite, with the ability to function as a future master bedroom. The design was developed in close collaboration with the client, ensuring the layout, detailing and joinery responded precisely to both current and future needs.
A key feature of the scheme is the introduction of large, carefully positioned openings that maximise light and views. A bespoke oak-framed window overlooks the rear garden, with anodised aluminium fins providing solar shading. An L-shaped rooflight with a glass-to-glass corner brings daylight deep into the plan and offers uninterrupted views of the sky, enhancing the sense of space.
Bespoke oak-faced plywood joinery is integrated throughout, forming a continuous element that incorporates a desk, storage, seating and bathroom fittings within the eaves. The expressed edges of the plywood contribute to a crafted and cohesive interior.
This project demonstrates how loft conversions can unlock additional space within existing homes, delivering flexible, well-designed environments that adapt over time.
