Bounds Green Mews Houses
Four new homes on a backland site opposite Bounds Green Underground Station
Satish Jassal Architects has designed a backland mews development in Bounds Green, delivering four new family homes on a constrained brownfield site opposite Bounds Green Underground Station.
The site, enclosed on all sides, presented significant challenges in terms of access, outlook and amenity. The design responds with a stepped terrace arrangement and L-shaped plan, allowing each home to benefit from multiple aspects while creating generous and well-defined private garden spaces to the front and rear.
The scheme transforms an underutilised site into a cohesive residential mews, carefully arranged to maximise light, privacy and a sense of enclosure. The layout creates a clear hierarchy of spaces, with the homes positioned to form a shared mews character while maintaining individual identity.
A robust and carefully considered material palette reinforces this approach. Handmade red brick, oak-framed windows, timber cladding and stone detailing are used to create a unified architectural language that responds to the surrounding context while offering a contemporary expression.
This project demonstrates how constrained backland sites can be unlocked to deliver high-quality family housing, creating new residential communities within established urban areas.
