Haringey Council Homes, Bounds Green

Eight new zero carbon Council Homes

Satish Jassal Architects is proud to have secured planning permission for Council homes on behalf of Haringey. The proposed site is a former garage and car park which overlooks a local Park. Our proposal consists of 8 mostly family-sized homes consisting of 6 apartments and two townhouses, including wheelchair and wheelchair adaptable homes. All homes have dual or triple aspects, and all have a view of the Park. All homes will be true zero carbon, the first in Haringey.

The site is an undefined corner of two streets. It projects forward of the main street; therefore, it is highly visual from long-distance views. Our solution is to create a new urban corner and a marker for the local Park. The building steps in plan and height around a central landscaped amenity space. Public realm improvements and increased refuse capacity have also been proposed for the existing residents.

The building consists of a series of repeating tapering red brick piers that are split into double-height bays. The subsequent bays are filled with coloured metal windows, Juliet balconies, and brick infills. Each bay of the building changes based on orientation and view. Projecting white horizontal windows sills and horizontal white stonework wrap around the building on the second floor and at the various roof levels to emphases the horizontal nature of the proposed building. Coloured metal rails and projecting brise soleil provide further architectural detail to the facades.
